RK BIRMINGHAM ROLLERS KIT BIRDS SALE
THE ULTIMATE KIT LOFT BY RK
AFTER 40 YEARS OF FLYING THE BIRMINGHAM ROLLER PIGEON. THIS IS THE ULTIMATE KIT LOFT. THE FLOOR OF ONE LOFT IS 5 FT X 5
FT. THIS IS THE MOST CRITICAL MEASUREMENT OF THE ENTIRE LOFT. AT THE END I WILL TELL YOU WHY. THE HEIGHT FOR ME IS 6' 4''
IN THE FRONT. AND 6' 10" IN THE BACK. THIS IS BECAUSE I AM 6' 1" TALL. AND I MAKE THE DOOR OPENING   6' 4" TALL . THE ROOFS TO
ALL MY LOFTS SLANT TOWARDS THE FRONT. YOU STILL NEED A TRAP. GOOD THING THE ULTIMATE LOFT HAS A ULTIMATE TRAP,
WHICH I DESIGNED. AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE YOU WILL SEE PLANS ON HOW TO BUILD THIS TRAP. THE DIMENSIONS ARE
CRITICAL.  I AM GOING TO DESCRIBE THE ULTIMATE KIT LOFT. I HAVE BUILT THIS ONE BEFORE, AND IT WORKED SO WELL . I AM GOING
TO BUILD MY NEXT ONE JUST LIKE IT. BY THE WAY, IT WILL BE THE VERY FIRST THING I WILL BUILD, AT THE ALL NEW  " RK'S ROLLER
RANCH" IN OKLAHOMA.  THE FLOOR OF THIS KIT LOFT WILL BE 24' LONG. AND 8' WIDE. THEIR IS 5 KIT LOFTS IN THE FRONT. 5' X 24'
AND THEIR IS ONE LONG HALLWAY, 3' X 24'. JUST BEHIND THESE. THEIR ARE 5 DOORS ON THE FRONT 6' X 3'. THIS ALLOWS PLENTY OF
ROOM FOR THE KIT TO EXIT THE LOFT. THEIR ARE ALSO 5 DOORS AT THE BACK OF EACH KIT LOFT, THAT ENTER THE HALLWAY. THIS
MAKES IT VERY EASY TO SWITCH BIRDS FROM ONE LOFT TO THE OTHER, AND ALSO PREVENTS A BIRD FLYING OUT AT A CRITICAL
TIME. YES THAT WOULD BE JUST BEFORE THE FLY. WHEN YOU SEE THE FRONT VIEW OF THIS LOFT. YOU WILL SEE WHY IT IS SO EASY
FOR THE BIRDS TO ENTER THE LOFT THAT YOU WANT THEM TO. THE FLOORS OF THIS LOFT WILL HAVE 3/4" TONG AND GROVE
FLOORING JUST LIKE  REAL HOUSE CONSTRUCTION. AND THE ENTIRE LOFT WILL BE BUILT THIS WAY. I SINK 8 , 4"X 4" TREATED POSTS
IN THE GROUND. 4 FT. I HAVE NEVER HAD A LOFT BLOW OVER . YET. KNOCK ON REAL WOOD. THE ULTIMATE TRAP THAT I DESIGNED.
HAS A LANDING BOARD THAT FOLDS UP ON HINGES, AND LOCKS IN PLACE. THIS WILL KEEP OUT ALL PREDATORS. YOU CAN GET AWAY
WITH LEAVING THIS OPEN ON SOME OCCASIONS . LIKE LEAVING BEFORE THE KIT LANDS, BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING AROUND ON A
FLY. IF YOU REALLY LIKE YOUR ROLLERS, YOU WILL LEAVE IT SHUT MOST OF THE TIME. I SOME TIMES HAVE TO GO OUT AND LET A
BIRD IN, THAT HAS BEEN HIDING OUT FROM A HAWK, AND HAS COME BACK LATE. NOW ABOUT THE 5' X 5' FLOOR. THIS IS THE SIZE I
HAVE CHOSEN, BECAUSE OF THE WAY I FEED MY KIT BIRDS. WIRE FLOORS, AND TRAPS, ARE  RUBBISH. YOU DON'T THINK A CAT,
OPOSSUM , RACCOON , OR DOG WALKING UNDER A WIRE FLOOR AT NIGHT SCARES  THE HELL OUT OF THE BIRDS. WELL THINK
AGAIN. IT IS ALSO TO DRAFTY FOR THE BIRDS, AND THEN THEIR'S THOSE GUYS WHO HAVE A BOARD OR SOME KIND OF LITTLE
FEEDER THAT ALL THE BIRDS HAVE TO GANG AROUND AND GET IN JUST TO EAT. AND OF COURSE THEY SCRAPE HALF THE CRAP OFF
THEM LIKE  THEY ARE ACTUALLY CLEANING IT. AND THEN POOR NICE CLEAN FEED RIGHT ON TOP OF THE CRAP THAT'S LEFT. YOU
JUST HAVE TO WONDER , ARE THEY THINKING AT ALL. NOBODY TAKES BETTER CARE OF THEIR ROLLERS THAN I DO. IF YOU LOOK AT
THE PICTURES OF MY ROLLERS AT RKPAIR.COM . YOU WILL SEE THAT I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.  I KEEP TWO 50 GAL
RUBBER CANS FULL OF CLEAN DRY SAND. AND THIS IS WHAT I USE ON THE KIT LOFT FLOOR. INITIALLY , I PUT 1 INCH OF SAND ON THE
FLOOR. I ALWAYS FEED MY BIRDS ON THE SAND, AND THEY CAN USE THIS AS GRIT. OK,I STILL FEED MY KIT BIRDS A HIGH QUALITY
GRIT ONCE A WEEK. I LET THE KIT OUT TO FLY, AND WHILE THEY ARE GAINING HEIGHT AND GETTING READY FOR THE SHOW. I TAKE A
HEAVY DUTY DUST PAN. AND SCRAPE THE TOP OF THE SAND THAT IS SOILED. TO THE FRONT OF THE LOFT. AND THEN JUST SCOOP
THIS UP . IF DONE DAILY IT IS ACTUALLY VERY LITTLE.  IT GOES IN A BUCKET, WHICH GOES IN THE COMPOST, WHICH GOES IN THE
GARDEN. MOSTLY WHERE THE MARTIN GOURDS GROW. THEN I TAKE A DUST PAN FULL OF CLEAN DRY SAND. AND SPREAD THIS ON
THE EXISTING SAND. THIS WAY YOU HAVE A NICE CLEAN SURFACE FOR THE BIRDS TO EAT ON DAILY. AS I STATED EARLIER, HERE ARE
A FEW TIPS ON FEEDING THE KIT. IF YOU WANT TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THEM. FIRST IF YOU HAVE TO FEED CERTAIN GRAINS, AT
CERTAIN TIMES. TO GET YOUR BIRDS TO ROLL. YOU DON'T HAVE GOOD ROLLERS. I HAVE FED WHAT I CALL THE AAA MIX NOW FOR 30
YEARS, THIS WOULD BE THE BEST RACING HOMER FEED YOU COULD BY, YES IT EVEN HAS SAFFLOWER IN IT. MAYBE YOU JUST NEED
THE BEST ROLLERS THEIR ARE. TO BE ABLE TO FEED THIS WAY. TIP NUMBER TWO, I START OUT WITH 25 YOUNGSTERS IN THE KIT.
THIS IS WHERE THE 5' X 5' COMES IN. WITH 20 BIRDS ENDING UP IN THIS SPACE, THIS IS HOW I FEED MY BIRDS. LETS SAY IT'S BEEN A
FEW MONTH'S AND HALF THE BIRDS ARE ROLLING PRETTY GOOD. I ALWAYS LET THE KIT SIT ON THE LOFT FOR 10 MINUTES AFTER
THEY HAVE FLOWN. THIS LETS THE BIRDS THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING , CATCH THEIR BREATH. SO THEY CAN NOW COMPETE FOR
THEIR RATION. WHEN THE BIRDS ARE ON THE SAND, I THROUGH A COUPLE SMALL HAND FULLS OF FEED ON THE SAND, SPREADING IT
OUT. THEN BECAUSE I WATCH MY BIRDS WHEN THEY WERE FLYING . I KNOW THE BIRDS THAT WERE PERFORMING THE MOST AND
THE HARDEST. AS THE BIRDS ARE NOW SCATTERED OUT ON THE SAND IN THE LOFT . I KEEP THROWING THE FEED TO THE BIRDS. BUT.
I THROUGH A LITTLE MORE IN FRONT OF THE BIRDS THAT HAVE BEEN REALLY ROLLING HARD. IT TAKES A LITTLE PRACTICE , BUT IT'S
NOT AS HARD AS YOU MIGHT THINK. MY KITS IN THE LATE FALL, WHEN THEY ARE REALLY WORKING HARD. EAT ABOUT ONE REGULAR
SOUP CAN OF AAA MIX, FOR 20 BIRDS, AND FLY AT LEAST 30 MINUTES,    RK PAIR

HELPFUL HINTS TO FLYING THE ULTIMATE KIT
1    WEAN YOUR YOUNG BIRDS WHEN THEIR TAIL FEATHERS ARE 2 INCHES LONG
IF THEY ARE FIRST CLASS ROLLERS THEY WILL AMAZE YOU.
2    IT'S BEST IF THEY ARE THE SAME AGE, NOT MORE THAN 4 DAYS APART
3    KEEP FOOD AND WATER IN FRONT OF THEM UNTIL THEIR FLIGHT AND
TAIL                    FEATHERS ARE HARD PENNED. THIS MEANS UNTIL THE BLOOD IS NO
LONGER IN
     THE FEATHERS
QUILLS
4   NEVER CHASE OR SCARE THE KIT UP THE FIRST TIME , OPEN THE DOOR AND
LET         THEM COME OUT. I PUT A BATH PAN ON THE GROUND RIGHT IN FRONT OF
THE
DOOR. THE FIRST THING MY YOUNG BIRDS DO IS TAKE A
BATH.
5   THE ONE THING YOU CAN DO BESIDES HAVING CHAMPION STOCK, IS TO
BUILD            YOU A ULTIMATE KIT LOFT. THIS IS WHY: YOU NEED A 5 X 5 FOOT
FLOOR TO FEED       THE KIT ON, YOU NEED CLEAN SAND ON THE FLOOR, THE REAR
OF THE LOFT               NEEDS TO BE 7 FOOT TALL, THE FRONT 6&1\2 FT TALL. SO YOU
CAN OBSERVE              THE BIRDS ON TOP OF THE ROOF AFTER THEY LAND, THIS
WILL ALSO SAVE YOU          SOME BIRDS FROM HAWK ATTACKS! IF YOUR YOUNG
BIRDS ARE FLYING UP TO          PERCHES 5 TO 6 FT HIGH,  THEY ARE CONSTANTLY
BUILDING UP THEIR WING
MUSSELS. THIS JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN IN A
RABBIT STYLE HOUSE.
6   FEED YOUR KIT ENOUGH SO THEY ARE FLYING 60 MINUTES, LONGER THAN
THIS         IS NON PRODUCTIVE. AFTER MOST OF THE KIT IS ROLLING GOOD, CUT THE
FEED         BACK GRADUALLY, UNTIL THEY ARE FLYING 50 MIN, THEN 40 MIN, WHEN
YOU              HAVE A KIT OF HIGH CLASS BIRMINGHAM ROLLERS FLYING 25 TO 30
MINUTES,            AND BREAKING 2 TIMES A MINUTE, YOUR ON YOUR WAY TO
PLACING HIGH IN              COMPETITION. FOR DEEPER BIRDS 40 TO 50 FT, AT MAX
VELOCITY, ONCE A                  MINUTE       IS ABOUT THEIR LIMIT, LETS TRY TO
REMEMBER THAT THEY ARE
LIVING,BREATHING, FAMILY MEMBERS, AND
NOT A MACHINE.

7   WHEN THE KIT LANDS ON THE ROOF, DON'T FEED THEM RIGHT AWAY, IF YOU
SEE        A BIRD PANTING A LITTLE, HE,SHE IS OUT OF SHAPE, WHEN THE BIRDS ARE
IN               SHAPE AND ROLLING HARD, YOU WILL SEE TWO ROSETTES ON THEIR
BREAST              FEATHERS RIGHT BESIDE THEIR WING BUTTS, THIS IS CAUSED BY
HIGH                          VELOCITY ROLLING. AFTER SCRAPING OFF THE TOP OF THE
SOILED SAND,I USE          A HARD RUBBER DUST PAN. I SPREAD A COUPLE OF
HANDFULS OF FRESH DRY            SAND ON TOP. NOW SPREAD HALF THEIR RATION
EVENLY AROUND THE FIVE FT           FLOOR AREA. AS YOU NOW SHOULD KNOW
WHICH BIRDS ARE SPINNING THE                FASTEST, THROW A LITTLE MORE FEED
RIGHT IN FRONT OF THESE BIRDS FACES.        YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED AT WHAT A
DIFFERENCE JUST A FEW EXTRA GRAINS         FOR THESE BIRDS WILL MAKE. THIS
JUST DOESN'T SOUND GOOD, IT WORKS,                                                              THE
MASTER,    RK PAIR

2014 KITS " YOU WILL NEED TO CHECK WITH CHET FOR AVAILABLY OF 2014 KITS "
IN FRONT OF THE YOUNG BIRD RACING LOFT ARE 2 ROLLER KIT LOFTS.
YOU SEE THE 2 TRAPS ARE OPEN.  NORMALLY ONLY 1 IS OPEN. WITH
ONE CLOSED YOU CAN SEE HOW EASY IT IS TO GET THE BIRDS TO GO
IN EITHER LOFT. YOU WOULD PUT ALL YOUR BIRDS COMING INTO THE
ROLL OR ROLLING ON ONE SIDE,AND THE ONES NOT ROLLING YET ON
THE OTHER.  MAKING SWITCHING THEM EFFORTLESS
THIS IS ONE KIT LOFT WITH THE DIMENSIONS LISTED ABOVE. IF YOU
HAVE LOFTS SCATTERED ALL OVER THE YARD. IT'S VERY DIFFICULT
TO GET THEM TO SWITCH LOFTS.
